I did all of this over a 2-3 month period. And when I say that, I’m not saying that it actually took me that long to do it, it’s more like whenever I have an hour or two where I don’t have anything to do and I’m not sleeping, I work on these doodles. It’s my last quarter of senior year of college, and I’ve been a bit busy. I am shamed that I have not posted anything in almost three months!

I have not seen the first two episodes of the Legend of Korra, but I do plan on watching it… sometime, when I’m not working. I haven’t even caught up with YJ, Thundercats, or GL:TAS. I blame college. After class, all I want to do is cook myself a good meal and sleep. I will be so happy in two months when it’s all said and done!

But back to the deviation!

These are some freelance concepts that I did during school for the Legend of Korra. Keep an eye out for these characters in some upcoming episodes!

PSYCH!

I’m just kidding guys! I am not working for the series nor am I affiliated with Nickelodeon in any way (though that would be sweet if I was!). These were just for fun! I got to design characters while at the same time practicing some anatomy, action poses, and perspective ← which is a totally awesome thing!

I have not really looked at the LOK costume designs that closely, so if these costumes seem a little not related, well… then they probably are. XD If the anatomy looks off on these sketches, then well, that’s because these poses are all from my head. No references. Hopefully I can make another sheet soon, but hopefully it won’t take me 2-3 months before it’s complete.

I again apologize if my character bios sound cliché’ or wrong. Like I stated before I haven’t seen any episodes or read much about LOK, so my knowledge of the series… is limited at best. Right now, I’m just assuming that the equalists are the main opponent of Korra and the other benders. I’m not sure the extent of how evil they are, but I’ll just go off from there.

Btw, the characters are the left are more sketches that I had liked. They don’t have names, but they might make upcoming appearances on more model sheets like this one. Some of their costumes inspired the main characters below.

THE KEYSTONES- Earth Benders

I’m imagining these to be a group of rogue earth benders who cause constant headaches to the Equalists. But just because they fight against the loyalists doesn’t make them automatic friends and allies to Korra and her crew. But they’re not exactly loose cannons, as the group is fairly controlled well by SISTER ROKK. After all, she is the one who formed the group. Without her guidance, the rest of the guys and girl would undoubtedly have tough lives.

They all have a tattoo of the old earth kingdom symbol somewhere on their bodies.

TILA
Age: 19
She is one tough cookie, and she likes strong leadership. She has more mastery over earthbending than ALTI, but she is not as good as JI HUAN or SISTER ROKK. However, she is the group’s best metal bender. She is a fan of pro-bending, and he often gets extreme crushes on whoever seems to be the strongest pro-bender at any particular time, (she might be Korra’s biggest fan!). She’s loves her ‘younger brother’ Alti, dearly, and would do anything for him. Her tattoo is on her left shoulder, and her signature move is “Iron Maiden”. ← which by the way is not fatal, but damn it hurts.

I think out of all of these four, she was the most fun to design an alter. You don’t really see too many girls with semi-bald heads, but that gives you a lot of leeway to play with hairstyles and hair arrangement. How does she keep her hairstyle like that you ask? She has rocks under her hair, duh! ← actually I don’t know about that, it was the first thing that came to my mind.

She’s a little flat-chested (which is totally neat. How many flat-chested girls do you see on screen?), but she has hips like DAYUM, so she’s all good.

ALTI
Age: 17
Crazy, but with a heart of gold. Adores his ‘older sister’ TILA. He loves her so much that he changed his name to ALTI, T-I-L-A rearranged, so that he would feel connected to her as close as possible since they’re not related by blood. He is the best hand to hand combat person in the group, but has the weakest mastery over earthbending. His tattoo is splayed huge on his back, and his signature move is “Rock Clutch”.

Yeah… so he’s like Farfarello from Weiss Kreuz who got transported to Jamaica and got a really nice tan. Oh… except he has both eyes. I think he’s got a little King Bumi in him.

JI HUAN
Age: 20
Sort of like the second leader of the group. Usually very calm but can get offended and angry easily. He specializes in sand-bending, and is known for his trademark blue hair. He is fiercely loyal to the group, especially SISTER ROKK, although TILA and ALTI drive him crazy sometimes. His tattoo is on the small of his back, and his trademark move is “the Sand Wall”.

How many ATLA or LOK characters do you see with different colored hair? NONE! Haha! What you gonna do now?!

SISTER ROKK
Age: 29
She is an earth bender and the founder and leader of the group. As the oldest of the group, by at least nine years, she acts like a surrogate older sister to everyone, albeit more tough and demanding than a typical sibling. Her tattoo is on her hip, and he signature move is “Jericho”. ← yeah, Jericho doesn’t really make much sense in the LOK universe, but I think it’s a good fit for her character and style of fighting.

She is heavily into tradition and pays homage to her ancestors and the earthbenders before her by wearing more traditional garb and hairstyles rather than the more modern clothes of her associates. To her friends, she is simply known as ROKK.
